About us
James River Float Company is a family owned business that is very excited to be heading into it’s third season.
There are so many new and exciting things with the company this year.
It’s hard to imagine that just three years ago we were worried about having enough guests to fill a 15 passenger van.
Now that our third season is about to begin we are excited to see returning guests as well as lots of new guests.
We knew from the beginning if we could just get people to the river that the river would do the rest.
Now with more ways than ever for people to enjoy the river (check out our new whitewater rafting trips, as well as stand up paddleboarding) we are sure to have the perfect excursion for you and your group.
James River Float Company is a small business and prides itself on providing the best possible service.
Our family has been enjoying the Mighty James River for years and we are excited every time we get to introduce it to guests that walk into our outpost.
The James River
Native Powhatan, Monacan, and Iroquois peoples depended on the River for survival for centuries.
Also known as Gemerive, a mispronunciation by French traders, in the Colonial era, the James played a significant role in American History.
In 1607, the first English settlers landed at Cape Henry and then moved upstream to the Appomattox River looking for the best spot to settle.
They chose a site bordered on three sides by water, and named it in honor of the King of England, “James Towne.” And modern day America was born.
