Paddleboarding

Looking for a workout on the river?  Want to strengthen your core muscles and work on your overall balance and stability?

If so, then look no further than stand up paddleboarding.  The latest craze on the water, stand up paddleboarding consists of a board similar to an oversized surfboard and a long stand up paddle.  The paddler balances on the board while gliding downriver.

If you are feeling adventurous and want to try something that could potentially change the way you consider floating down rivers then give us a call.  Orientation trip $100, regular flatwater $20/first hour, $15/each additional hour.  Downriver rental $45 per person.

A sport normally practiced on the coast, we at James River Float Company are excited to offer an inland version of this.

Our river specific boards are specially designed for navigating the waterways on which we regularly offer trips.

This is one of the most challenging and fun ways to experience the river.  Normally while paddling a boat you have a river level perspective.  With stand up paddleboarding your view is much different because you are standing as opposed to sitting and therefore your view is considerably higher up above the water than in a traditional watercraft.

Instead of looking into the river grass you are looking over it.  Instead of wondering what is behind that big rock, you can actually see it.

Downriver paddleboarding is an exciting new way to explore our beautiful waterways.  We recommend prior canoe/kayak experience.

All guests interested in doing a downriver river boarding trip (as opposed to a flatwater trip) are required to first take a downriver orientation course with one of our stand up paddleboarding guides.

This orientation course takes place on our nine mile run where our guide will teach you the basics in board handling, balance, and navigating the river.

Most importantly, though it will be teaching you the best way to wipe out.  That’s right folks, if you are hoping not to get your hair wet, this is not the adventure for you.

To date there has been a 94% splash rate for new participants.
